Any harm to old 1996 ide hard disk

Post by makajzdaj » Fri Jun 29, 2012 2:41 am

Found an old Fujitsu HDD and want to connect to my not so old Intel 865gma board to see whats on it

Can I do any damage to the drive or the board because on the sticker of the drive
is labelled a strange rating : 12V...0.32A or 5V...0.32A

Are these ratings safe for ATX PSUs?

Thanks for help!

No problem there. So long as you're not plugging the power cable in upside down (you can do this but you have to push VERY HARD) you can't damage anything. I have a 2.5Gb drive here that sometimes gets hooked up to newer machines for test purposes, no problems.
