Sorry, I haven't been around lately, but let's not forget one of our most recent 10 millionaires, everybody's friend....
Frenchie!!!!
Sorry I wasn't on top of that, but hey, great work!! One of our best folders hits a great milestone, give it up! And keep on folding!!!

Thanks, It was nice to hit that milestone Folding still going strong, except when I reboot for updates and I forget to launche the client (I cannot figure out how to launch it successfully with the scheduler, I'll have to look into that...)
Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom
And who else but Cordis, again, would hit such a high milestone :
100,000,000 points !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, you saw it right : 8 zeros !!! Great number cordis, congratulations !!!

Wow, I am in awe. Great stuff...
Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom
Hey, thanks! Sorry I've been so absent lately, I decided to set up a dual socket machine to keep going with bigadvs after the deadline. That caused me to shift around more than a few motherboards between cases, and it's taken me a while to get things back to something like normal. And while that was happening, I had a crisis with my NAS and had to do some backups and rebuilds and crap. And I did an experiment with 3 gpus in a system, then had to shut it down after I couldn't get it any quieter than vacuum cleaner. But things are all humming along now. I'm way behind on my congrats to others though, sorry about that.
Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom
More congrats to cordis, man that's a lot of points!
For me 30k day ~ 1M months so I'll be there in like 7 years...
Hey frenchie you've now got over 12,000,000 points
Good work everyone
Is it just me or is trying to build a PC that's silent at idle rather easy compared to one that can run CPU & GPU folding and still be quiet
For me I can't keep the CPU temp down at the same time as the noise. Well I can if I take the over-clock off, my i7-2600k @ 4.5GHz is a much, much hotter beast than the [email protected] I had before, a bit faster too of course
At the moment Speedfan is set to hold the CPU temp, of the hottest core, in the 75~80°C range, if I accepted a few more °C I could bring the noise down somewhat but I think this is already pretty hot.
At stock clock speed I estimate [from AC wattage and SPCR PSU review] that Prime 95 causes the DC wattage to jump by 60~65w, at 4.5GHz that figure is ~130w so not surprising cooling quietly is hard. Well it would be a lot easier if I got a decent case, but that would be cheating!

Ok, so I posted this in the wrong thread. Not quite to the 10 million mark yet.

Hey, congrats to dereksbelanger for hitting 30,000,000 points and SKeptical_Thinker for hitting 90,000,000 points!!! Very nice! Keep up the great work, and keep on folding!!!!
Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom
And hey, looks like Lockheed just passed 10,000,000 just today, way to go! Great work!
Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom
Well, I just passed 500 million, but I think I'll cut back for the summer. See if I can keep a machine or two going, but I do want to see if I can lower my power bill a little.

Woo hoo, I rolled past 25 million.

I am actually in this group, now - at about 10,600,000+ points! Woohoo!
Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom
Hey, congrats Neil. I just recently broke 600 million, with the help of some new hardware. The nvidia gtx 980 cards are pretty sweet, I'm currently getting around 330k ppd per card, and the power consumption with that is pretty low. I have a system with two 980 cards in it, and the total system power is around 360 watts when both cards are running, for a 660k ppd system. My old bigadv system is still chugging along, it gets around 300k ppd for 500 watts, so video folding officially has better ppd/watt. And that's still with 28nm tech, can't wait to see how they get with 16nm tech. The only downside is that you only get the high ppd for x17 type units, if you get an older x15 unit then your speed drops to around 77k, and the power use goes up. Not sure why. So you wont' get a super predictable point average, but when it's running well it's pretty sweet. Highly recommended.

Video cards are kings of F@H, that's for sure. My son's gaming computer is my only active F@H unit, and it has an ATi card that is not supported in F@H, so it is running the CPU client on an i5.
Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom
Well Neil, if you're looking for a better card, I'm sure I could spare one from my stack. I have 4 gtx 460s just sitting on a shelf, and I could probably dig up a 560 or two, but I think they're mounted in a shut down system. You might even talk me out of one of my idled gtx 770 cards, although one of them got kinda noisy, and I'm not sure which one it is. Anyway, if you're interested, send me a message.

I will talk to my son about what video card(s) we can put in his system, and I will get back to you.

Well, I was tempted by a new GTX 970:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814500362
His system has a 400W SeaSonic, but it only has one 6 pin connector, so I was also considering the 520W passive unit ... nearly $500 total.

Unfortunately, that's not a very quiet card -- fans ramp up pretty fast under load. This one is much quieter, like the Asus Strix:NeilBlanchard wrote:Well, I was tempted by a new GTX 970:
