Lowest power consumption board with x86 or x64 CPU

Post by rado3105 » Thu Mar 28, 2013 8:46 am

Hi, till now the lowest power consumption I had, was intel dn2800mt board with power consumption around 17W. Can you recommend something under 10W?
Thanks

The lowest power x86 boards that can realistically be acquired are those based around Geode CPUs. Very low power, 5W or less depending on the CPU and peripherals. Be aware that they are MUCH slower than even Atoms and are meant for embedded or low power server use. As such they often lack such niceties as video and sata ports.

I have manage to reach 14W idle on a 2100T and intel mobo (but no perif), the setup is on my signature, it run 3 fans, i bet with one i can get close to 12 or so. When i was building my server, i stumble on a CPU that i always wanted to try, but never had the chance as it was only OEM from what i remember, E3-1220L its very similar to 2100T but had a lower TDP, but was long time ago, dont take my word for it, as i never really tried it.

Maybe it would be worth to check Intel DN2800MT hands on...Single digit world? since you already own one.

I bet with mobile chipset and ULV mobile cpu you might be able to get below 10W, maybe with haswell.... who knows.

The headless DH77EB + i3-3220 "Music Server" that's listed in my sig idles around 13-14W with one HDD, the NIC one undervolted Scythe fan and one USB peripheral. Another fan adds 2-ish W, another HDD adds 4-5W.

For comparison, the previous iteration of this server was running the same peripherals, but was running an Asus Atom AT5NM10T-1 mobo, and was idling around 18-20W!
