Recommend me a 140mm Case Fan :)

Post by tdotcbc84 » Sat Nov 08, 2014 3:37 pm

So right now -- it is between the two:

or

http://www.ncix.com/detail/corsair-air- ... 6-1360.htm

I'm leaning towards the Noctua --- but damn, $22+tax a pop is STEEP for case fans!

Looking for just one in the front, and one in the back --- in a Corsair 750D

Thanks in advance for any reviews / recommendations :)

You'll still be appreciating the quality long after the price is forgotten. And bear in mind the extras that you get with the Noctua - rubber mounts, a low noise adapter, an ultra low noise adapter, PSU connector cable and an extension cable. In other words a complete fan fitting and configuration kit. If you can run these fans under PWM control then I would second Abula's suggestion of the Redux NF-P14S 1200 PWM which is a fan I use myself. Note that in line with the price the Redux is just the fan and some screws.

Noctuas generally offer low value, and very low performance, with unneeded extras, in the retail packaging. But, the noise amount at low RPMs, and overall quality, are there.

IMO, Arctic Cooling's F14 PWM is a good value alternative. But, given the Redux's price for the next day, I'd go for that, instead, before it expires.

It depends of what you're looking for: cooling or quietness.

Just for instance: Like the 120 mm version, the AF140 Quiet Edition is more proficient at cooling than delivering a nice sound. Fairly good performance was had at every tested speed except 550 RPM. (so when it was actually quiet).

This fan roundup might be useful if you didn't see it already:

I have tested several 140 mm fans and found the Antec TrueQuiet the best (Twocool may be good too):

Edit: oops, I missed the "Noctua on sale" part.

I would take the Noctuas at $11.99 cad over the Antecs $19.99 cad, the sale ends today. Noctua performance is good, the weakside of them its the pricing, they usually are extremly expensive and there are cheaper alterantives that can perform equal, but with the sale, i would take the noctuas.

I ended getting these ones: http://www.ncix.com/detail/noctua-nf-p1 ... 4-1242.htm

I prefer the higher spin rate, as I feel a need to cool the system a bit better than it is right now.

Anyone care to comment on these, before I install? Potentially return them, if they are too loud.

Adding 2 in the front panel and 1 as exhaust ..... in my Corsair 750D case :)

You didn't say what are you trying to cool in that huge case, comments depend on that.

I havent found a fan that above 1000rpms is quiet to my liking, but its a good fan, as long as you can undervolt it, it should be a pretty solid fan.

Trying to cool a i7 4770K clocked at 4.4ghz
and a GTX 780 Videocard

I have a CoolMaster EVO cooler with that stupid stock fan on it.

Probably should replace that 120mm fan as well.

I just installed the fans ....

1x Front Panet (intake)
1x Back Panel (exhaust)
1x Top Panel (exhaust)

You may even remove the front fan and see how bad temps are affected, the GPU might climb 3 - 4 degrees higher.
The 212 Evo is a bit weak for your overclocked 4770k, and this may result in fan rpm higher than comfortable at max load.

don't want to turn this in OC post...

But with a mild 1.2V 4.2ghz Clock --- the fans are holding up nicely :)
