Someone cloned the Zalman CNPS7000 !

Post by wumpus » Thu Apr 22, 2004 4:11 pm

First the ThermalTake Silent Boost cloned the ThermalRight SLK series.. now someone's gone and done it to the Zalman CNPS7000!

http://www.hi-techreviews.com/modules.p ... le&sid=102

Dizamn, they even copied the Fanmate!

Hmmm

Post by NeilBlanchard » Thu Apr 22, 2004 5:55 pm

Hello:

Hmmm -- the fins have wider spacing and they do not extend up and around the fan as they do on the Zalman. Interesting fan surround without any flat spots. It has potential, or at least it might make Zalman lower their prices a little?

Too bad the reviewer makes no mention of noise levels and who has ever heard of the "Owl Stream" and "Vulturespin" HS's they used for comparison?

I agree, it looks promising. if it proforms close and has a lower price, i cant see anything wrong.

however beeing it uses a ball barring fan, i doubt much that it would be silent. even at reduced voltage. at least not to the level that most of us try to obtain.

i'm glad to see that another company has done some interesting things with an already good design.

i have yet to buy my new heatsink (only have a 2.26 now - hardly gets warm even with the stock 'sink) but had been planning on a zalman 7000, ducted to the outside.

what's funny is that i was going to shroud the outer edge of the fins (prolly w/ duct tape) to force the air to pass through the interior of the zalman before getting sucked out of the case. looks like the primecooler does exactly that...

we need some more reviews, and a head to head comparison with the zalman (including noise levels...)...

IMO that cooler looks nasty, especally when beside a 7000A. The contact area is smaller, there are fewer fins, and the fan housing is ugly. If I bought that I'd die of shame.

It even performs 10°C poorer than the 7000A. (in their testbench)

I agree.... just another 'cheesey' knock-off.

Dang, 10c worse than the "real" Zalman Cu under overclocked load is pretty bad. Ah well. I think the Silent Boost fares better against its doppleganger, the SLK-800..

http://www.techtastic.ca/reviews2/silent-boost2.html

http://www.dirkvader.de/frame.php?site= ... boost.html *

* note vantec tornado (!) on slk

.. at least in those two reviews. I couldn't find many more side by side comparisons of the slk-900/slk-800 and the silent boost, but those two results show it provides 95% of the performance!

I was hoping this knockoff would do the same for the Zalman but oh well :(

I forgot to mention that the difference increases to 15°C when fan speed is reduced to the minimum.

OMG!

Looking at the retail packages, they look almost identical! And they even copied the FanMate. Zalman is so gonna sue their asses!

Cheers,

Jan

The funny thing is, if you run "cheesy knock-off" through the Babelfish Chinese translator it becomes "Thermaltake"! :)

Not sure how close the Primecooler resembles the Zalman 7000........when compared to Cooltek's effort...

Was at Fry's today and they had this model of the Cooltek as well as a Cooltek model that is exactly the same as the Primecooler.

The Primecooler actually looks more simular to the product prior to the 7000 which was the 5700.

My guess is that Zalman contracts out manufacturing to a plant in china, and the plant in china is doing these other coolers on the side based off of the same equipment/designs that they have for Zalman.

Wow, so according to DirkVader-- which is a generally credible site IMO-- the cooltek performs almost identically to the Zalman AND it has better (more conventional) mounting options.

Very nice!

Vulturespin is another name for the Whisperrock...same HSF just rebadged for Speez. Whisperrock was too freakin loud for me though, so this review isn't saying much.
