cheapest quiet 120mm fan @5v?

Post by grenadier » Sat Jul 23, 2005 9:21 pm

I've got a slk3000b right now and am looking to pick up a pair of 120mm fans (one for the front and one to replace the stock antec fan). Other than my Arctic Freezer 64 these will be the only fans in my system. Anyone have a recommendation for a cheap option that will run near silent @5v?

they're young-lins. i can't compare them to any other 120mm fan as they are the only ones I own. with the 5v mod they're practically inaudible in my case; i'm very pleased with them. also they're real cheap.

I was actually thinking about going with a pair of yate loon fans and running them at 5v. Someone else posted the link below and $24 for a pair of these shipped seems like a pretty good deal. I think these are the same fans that Nexus uses. Anyone have one of these / know what they sound like at 5v??

Using the "search" function (for yate loon) would give you dozens and dozens of hits to threads that discuss this exact topic. It's been covered in great detail over the past 6+ months.

I actually ended up buying a pair of FBA12G12M1A's from sidewinder since they're on sale for $12 ($4 less than the L1A's). These appear to be the best bang for your quiet 120mm buck deal available at the moment other than the $9 Yate Loons at Jab-Tech (high shipping + tax kind of kills this one though).

Would anyone recommend I drop another $8 and switch to two L1A's or will the M1A's be quiet enough @ 5v?

Hello:

You have spread this to two different theads, making it a little hard to follow...

The Panasonics -- even the L1A's are likely to be noisier than the the Yate Loon medium speeds. The Yate Loon low speeds and the Nexus (made by Yate Loon) are most probably a lot quieter.
