AMD just released information about Energy Efficient Desktop Processors in the upcoming new AM2 socket, the long awaited 64-bit Turion 64 X2 dual-core mobile processors, and a sneak preview of their next-gen K8L processor technology.

May 17, 2006 Turion 64 X2, the first 64-bit processors for mobile computing, supports AMD’s hardware virtualization technology and dual-channel DDR2-667 memory in the new 638-pin Socket S1. Four models are available immediately. The table compares basics and pricing between dual-core AMD and Intel processors. Note that AMD’s Thermal Design Power ratings, measured more stringently than Intel’s, are very close their MT-series single-core Turion 64s. According to Chinese site HKEPC.com, Intel will cut prices by up to 33% on May 28, probably to compete more closely with AMD’s T64X2 pricing. AMD Turion 64X2 press release
